Billy Sea

Songwriter Billy Sea

Prolificacy Personified!

Well thanks to Billy Sea, who lives in San Diego California I am able to use that fantastic, tongue-tying subtitle! I discovered Billy, as I have many songwriters after being introduced to the FAWM community. Billy writes as many songs in a day as some songwriters write in a year.

The first time I caught sight of his list of songs for FAWM 2008, my first impression was that so many songs in such a short space of time probably meant that most of the songs he had written were probably not really that great. Oops! Huge misjudgment on my part and I quickly realized that it is possible to create great quality in great quantity.

Armed, for the most part with an acoustic guitar and his voice. Billy Sea writes predominantly country songs in a traditional style, although he also covers some unexpected genres, which is another reason I respect his songwriting so much. As for country though. I wish I could write a country song that sounded anywhere near as good as Billy Sea does. He takes a very simple formula and makes it sound complete. I think it must be an instinctive knack he has because he doesn’t seem to work hard at it. The songs just come out.

One thing I find notable about Billy is this: He believes there is no such thing as writer’s block and going by his prolific output I’d have to say he’s probably right. If you are remotely interested in songwriting then I recommend you join the FAWM community and partake in either the FAWM challenge or the 50/90 challenge, or both if you’re brave or crazy enough.

That way you will have a good chance of collaborating on a song with the great man himself. I haven’t co-written any songs with Billy Sea because I’m a bit introverted with my songwriting, so it takes quite a push to get me to collaborate with anyone. If I’m honest I’m probably a bit nervous about living up to his level of songwriting, although being so modest too, he probably wouldn’t agree with that.

Check him out. He’s a great dude and with so many songs it’s impossible not to like at least a album’s worth of them.
